Australia, once a country only accessible to the adventurous and privileged few, is now known all over the world as a tourist destination. The city of Melbourne represents all that is good about this wonderful and diverse land and is a perfect place to stay in order to see the real Australia. When planning a trip to Melbourne luxury hotels are in abundance and there is plenty of choice.

Melbourne is the capital of the Southern state of Victoria and it is the second largest city in the whole of Australia. Getting here is easy with the city served by two major airports, Melbourne and Avalon which both link in to major cities around the world. Once here, there are many sights and activities for the tourist and the city is also a major business center for Australia, a fact which attracts many visitors in its own right.

There is so much to see and do here that it is almost impossible to know where to begin so one of the solutions to the question of just what to do first is provided by the 'best of Melbourne' tour. This is in fact a traveling tramcar restaurant that takes you through the city streets while you dine and it takes in the city's sights and attractions on the way. This idea was put into practice in 1983 and is hugely popular with tourists and also with some locals and it is the perfect way to begin your stay in Melbourne.

There are many museums to be found across the city and one of the most visited is the Immigration Museum. There is arguably no better way to discover the city's past than to pay a visit here and there are chronicles of people from all over the world who have arrived in Melbourne since the early 1800's. This is an interactive museum with moving images and fascinating photographs and it truly deserves to be one of the city's most popular attractions. Other popular museums include the Police Museum and the Museum of Chinese History.

Of all its landmarks, the Eureka Tower is undoubtedly the city's most striking. Opened in 2006, it is one of the World's tallest buildings at 975 feet high and naturally it dominates the Melbourne skyline. There are many other landmarks to see here including the Gaol, the Royal Exhibition Buildings and the Parliament House of Victoria.

If you are into wildlife, then the areas around Melbourne are home to many of Australia's well known indigenous creatures. If you don't want to stray too far then the city's zoo is vast and extremely popular, while its Aquarium is quite spectacular and gives the opportunity to dive with the sharks.

There is still plenty more to do here. Shoppers will enjoy the Docklands Area and Queen Victoria Market while sports fans can pay a visit to the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground or the Telstra Dome which plays host to many sports including Rugby Union and Australian Rules Football.

Lovers of food and drink will enjoy Australia as a destination. In Melbourne luxury hotels are equipped with some excellent bar and dining facilities. Beyond the hotel, the city is alive with a vast choice of bars and restaurants serving a range of national and international dishes. Australia is rightly proud of its wine industry which is world class and many fine local and national wines are available across the city. Look out too for VB, Victoria's locally produced beer.

In Melbourne luxury hotels are equipped with the most luxurious of facilities. Rooms are directed to exacting standards and are comfortable places in which to work or relax. Televisions are provided in each room and tea and coffee making facilities are widely available. Outside of traditional meal times, coffee and snacks can be found throughout the day. Depending on your choice of venue you can make use of state of the art gyms, sumptuous beauty spas and Wi-Fi access is widely accessible.

Melbourne really is a stunning city and perfectly combines its vibrant modern feel while acknowledging its rich and varied past. There is so much to do and take in including fabulous shopping, activities and sightseeing and, for the business traveler; the city is one of the most important in the country. Whether you are in Australia for business or for pleasure, Melbourne is the ideal city to cater for all your requirements.
